Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) transforms emotional suffering into healing, growth, and freedom. It is widely assumed that psychological distress requires a long time to heal; however, repeated studies show that through EMDR people can quickly experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years. EMDR is a powerful therapeutic intervention that proves the mind can heal from emotional distress just as the body heals from physical trauma. This method helps you identify the root of your difficulties and eradicate them from your body and mind - all without speaking in detail or doing homework used in other therapies. EMDR has been demonstrated to effectively clear the effects of trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, stress, anger, and panic.

EMDR uses “bilateral stimulation”: your brain is activated on alternating left and right sides via moving the eyes, playing a sound in alternating ears, or by tapping gently on different sides of the body. Meanwhile, a supportive therapist helps you process memories and create powerful positive meaning from them on an emotional level. The bilateral stimulation helps your brain process information that got stuck due to emotional and sensory overload (similar to how the brain processes complex information during REM sleep). EMDR will empower you; your wounds do not just close – they transform.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a time-sensitive, structured therapy directed toward solving current problems and teaching clients skills. CBT guides clients to a deeper understanding of their patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how these three influence one another. Clients learn skills to alter patterns. It is a collaborative effort between the client and therapist to explore how perception shapes reality and how clients can gain more control of their experiences. This treatment also provides strategies for more effective parenting and overcoming anxiety and phobias . CBT has been proven highly effective for treating anxiety, depression, and child behavior problems.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) increases use of coping skills and teaches strategies for expressing, experiencing, and regulating intense emotions. DBT helps clients build a life that they experience as worth living. It is an evidence-based treatment proven to increase use of skillful behavior to address issues such as suicidal behavior, self-injury, depression, anger, emotion dysregulation, intense irritability, and anxiety.  Strategies taught balance acceptance and change:

      • Acceptance-oriented skills: Mindfulness & Distress Tolerance

      • Change-oriented skills: Emotion Regulation & Interpersonal Effectiveness

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a short-term treatment approach based on the principles of CBT and anxiety reduction through gradual, supportive exposure. Many studies have demonstrated that traumatic stress and depression improve more with TF-CBT than with non-specific therapy. It is highly effective for treating childhood trauma, usually in about 12-16 sessions. Caregivers learn strategies to support the client. The client learns emotional regulation skills and heals through making meaning out of their traumatic memories and becoming the hero of their own story.
